Tom Reiner, P.E.
Principal
Tom is a structural and façade engineer practicing in the northeast USA including New York City. Tom studied architecture and engineering and is a licensed professional engineer in several states including New York. He has worked in Germany, London, Los Angeles, and New York City with some of the world's top architects, consultants, and subcontractors developing innovative and creative structural and facade designs for challenging projects around the world.
BACKGROUND
Tom was born and raised in southeastern Arizona, where the unique natural systems of the Sonoran Desert provided the initial inspiration for his interest in engineering and design.
Tom attended architecture school at the University of Arizona in Tucson where he earned a Bachelor of Architecture with Honors and was awarded the AIA School Medal and Certificate of Merit.
Tom then joined TriPyramid Structures near Boston, where he worked as a designer on several innovative projects featuring structural glass and stainless steel tension systems.
Following his interests in engineering and design, Tom completed a joint graduate program at the University of California, Berkeley, earning graduate degrees in architecture and engineering. During this time he was awarded a year-long Fulbright Fellowship to study at the Institute for Lightweight Design and Construction (ILEK) in Stuttgart, Germany.
After graduate school Tom joined the multi-disciplinary British engineering firm Buro Happold, working in L.A. and London. In 2010 Tom joined the German engineering firm Knippers Helbig, where he worked on many challenging and innovative structural and façade projects and helped lead the New York office.
Tom has taught classes in structural and facade engineering at Columbia University, Pratt University, the University of Southern California, and SCI-Arc.
In 2017 Tom started Talweg Engineering Studio D.P.C.
